8th Grade Math
Course Description
The eighth grade math course at Howards Grove Middle School utilizes a variety of materials to enhance student learning. Some of our areas of study will involve working with integers, solving algebraic equations, graphing linear equations and inequalities, working with ratios and proportions, solving percent problems, working with rational and irrational numbers, working with measurement, and solving chance and probability problems. The Go MATH! textbook, pictured above, is structured using easy-to-follow lessons, organized with an abundance of practice problems. Homework activities will feature ample skill practice, problem solving, and mixed review. Additionally, throughout this course, students will notice a strong link between reading and math. This will help the students build problem-solving skills critical for success on standardized tests, while adequately preparing them for the rigors of high school level math courses. Finally, Arithmetic Developed Daily (ADD) activities will be used to keep students general math skills sharp, while Terra Nova test prep activities will be incorporated to provide students with additional preparation for standardized tests such as the Forward, SAT or ACT.
